Gratitude Brings Clarity

There’s a lot of talk out there about 2020 being a year of clarity. In a moment of weakness I almost chose “clarity” as my annual theme. After all, my clients consistently tell me they get clarity from our work...

I wanted this year’s theme to be different, new, something I hadn’t considered before. In meditation, I began with thoughts of gratitude - For the small things, for family, extending to the gift of life itself. I listened for guidance and I heard “strong”. Not “strength” but “strong.” That aligned with my inherent nature that enjoyed the perceived juxtaposition of gentleness and strength.

As a young and introverted girl of about 10, I cherished a poster on my wall that said, “nothing is as strong as gentleness. Nothing is as gentle as pure strength.” It was never clear why I was so drawn to those words...

In my office I have a small framed card that quotes Ghandi: “With a gentle hand you can shake the earth.”

Similar theme, dots are connecting. I’m remembering.

The knowing came when I dipped into gratitude, into the quiet space within and remembered a little bit more of who I am. I got the gift of clarity in the quiet.

When we settle in present time, in the now, we are less distracted by thoughts of the past or anxieties of the future.

In the now we get clarity. Less noise. Less future tripping. A quieter mind, a willingness to hear that most quiet voice that sometimes gets drowned out by our fears.

Love and live a life of gratefulness.

When we’re grateful we’re happy, not the other way around.
